Research-grade engineering, working as part of your team. We develop the rigs, demonstrators and experimental hardware needed to validate the technology and generate evidence.
Tell us about your project →The prototype doesn't exist yet.
Some engineering disciplines are missing.
The requirement needs translating into something buildable.
C2E bridges that gap.
We translate the scientific requirement into buildable engineering, bring in the missing capability, and keep the design, specialists and suppliers aligned.
Our experience includes cryogenic, ultra-high-vacuum, high-temperature and nanometer precision movements.
Every project starts with Discovery — a paid, fixed-scope first step where we identify the technical requirements and map the risks with you: what the hardware has to do, how many engineers it takes, and which specialisms it needs.
From there it's co-development — the right engineers work embedded in your team, building the prototypes and demonstrators the project calls for and validating them through simulation and test, so the evidence is there before you commit to fabrication. We work on a fixed fee, for as long as the project needs, and update the plan as the work develops.
A short, no-commitment call first, to see if we're the right fit.
Study your challenge: We get into the technical detail with you and map where the risk sits.
Build an action plan: A concrete plan for how the work gets done, and in what order.
Dimension the effort: How many engineers, which specialisms, what it costs.
Integrate and co-develop: The right engineers, embedded in your team, not handed a spec.
Develop, test and validate: Build and validate the hardware, for as long as the project needs.
Experimental engineer with experience across fusion, synchrotron instrumentation and aero-engine R&D. I founded C2E to bring that kind of engineering depth into research and deep-tech projects that need to move from scientific requirement to working hardware.
My background is experimental. Before C2E I worked at Renaissance Fusion (private fusion technology), at ALBA Synchrotron (large-scale research infrastructure), and completed an experimental PhD in aero-engine tribology in collaboration with Rolls-Royce.

Rolls-Royce had identified stator contacts as a fuel saving technology. It was still at an early research stage, and no laboratory results existed under representative in-engine conditions. The concept was solid; the evidence was needed.
Solution"Julian's project brought significant challenges, and also delivered transformative impact. He met these challenges admirably, creating a research approach that both achieved the desired outcomes, and provided a platform to develop this topic area in the long-term."
